The imagination of a child is a theme I always like to tackle. Often I abandon it because I can’t think of a way to do such a wonderful theme justice. Here, where I took a much more literal approach, I was greatly challenged by what you don’t need in an image. What can the painting get away with not having? In its initial stages I threw everything into this image to tell its story and gradually removed things until it had the bare essentials needed to support the narrative.
