Salome |

| In the Books of Matthew and Mark the name of Salome is not even mentioned. It only reads that she is Herodia's daughter and her demand to have the head of John the Baptist was pronounced following her mother's instruction. In accordance with more objective sources Salome did not have such a tragic end of her life as proposed by Wilde. She survived her dance and the execution of John the Baptist to marry first her uncle Tetrarch Philip of Trachonitus and later her cousin King Aristobulus of Calchas. 'The pastel painting in black and white of a young woman is beautiful and seductive as she glances towards the viewer. She is a woman who has charisma and self assurance.' |
